We whisk you off to the Mediterranean this week in our Lunchtime Concert on Wednesday 20 February at 1pm, with soprano Alice Bishop accompanied by Simon Marlow on the piano.
They write: ‘The colour and sparkle of the Mediterranean inspires our programme. From Italy we have
tuneful bel canto songs by Donizetti and Respighi; from Spain come some delightfully surprising songs by Manuel de Falla and Fernando Obradors whose vibrant colour and energy are typical of the Iberian Peninsula.’
The programme will be as follows:
Fernando Obradors (1897-1945) Canciones Clásicas Españolas
La mi sola, Laureola…
Corazón por que pasais…?
El majo celoso
Con amores, la mi madre…
Del cabello más sutil
Coplas de Curro Dulce
Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848) La conocchia
Pietro Cimara (1887-1967) Fiocca la neve
Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936) Notte
Manuel de Falla (1876-1946) Siete Canciones Populares Españolas
El Paño Moruno
If you’re feeling rather warm after all that Mediterranean sun, we can then offer you an opportunity to cool down on Friday at 7.30pm, when there will be a performance of Schubert’s ‘Winterreise’ with Matthew McGuignan (tenor) and Marion Caldwell (piano).
There are rainbow cakes on sale in the Fair Shares Cafe to celebrate LGBT History month, and also to celebrate the first anniversary of our accreditation as a Safer Space for LGBT+ visitors. Look forward to seeing you!
