Prayer of Saint Francis

August 30, 2009

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
where there is hatred, may I bring love;
where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, despair, darkness,
may my faith bring encouragement and light.
Where there is sadness, Lord, let me bring joy!

O Divine Teacher,
enable me not want to be consoled, but to console;
May I hope understand, rather than be understood;
to be loved yes, but more to love.
In giving, we receive.
In forgiving, we are forgiven.
In dying we rise to New Life.

Amen.

Famous 20th Century French Prayer, adopted by many leaders
including Saint Theresa of Calcutta’s “Missionaries of Charity”.
